HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
Downtown Harrisburg is looking up. A year ago, Second Street faced a crime wave with murders and shootings that scared away many customers. Now, a transformation is happening before resident's eyes.
A buzz saw cutting molding echoed in the soon-to-be Federal Taphouse bar and restaurant. Restaurant Row's latest overhaul consists of a sophisticated state-of-the-art space that hopes to attract new customers and welcome the frightened ones back.

I'm not even going to post the whole article. I wish I had a nickel for every time something was going to revitalize Harrisburg.

Hasn't this been the dream for a decade now?

A few blocks of bars & eateries will not change the climate of culture of a city.

If there is still nothing to draw people outside of inconvenient parking in an area known for drunk punks and muggings, there will still be no reason to spent time there.

There are so many choices in outlying areas that there is no reason to go to the burg. It offers nothing that isn't available in every other area of the suburbs.

Harrisburg is the victim of its own geography. And as long as there are no substantial shopping or entertainment districts there will be no revitalization.

They still seem stuck in the past where the city was the only option for those looking for department stores and entertainment. We just don't live in that time anymore and they would be well served to make the burg a destination for a different reason.

The criminals hear this news & say to each other, "Cool, more whities to rob!".

Bring back the 'Spot' and I may consider crossing the city line ....
I guess nobody has told them that the crime has not left downtown, it's only in hibernation for the winter.
