Gov. Tom Corbett may not announce whether he'll support the expansion of Medicaid when he delivers his budget address in less than 24 hours.

The Republican governor plans Tuesday to send his budget proposal to the Legislature for the fiscal year beginning July 1. But Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi said Corbett had yet to reach a decision Monday on the Medicaid question.

Administration officials aren't saying whether he's decided.

Expanding it would provide government health insurance to hundreds of thousands of uninsured Pennsylvanians, with the federal government paying the lion's share of the cost.

But Corbett's said he worries says the state's costs could be unaffordable, even with the generous federal help. Democrats say expanding Medicaid will save money for state taxpayers and could help lower private insurance premiums.

He is only gonna drop one bomb at a time. Tomorrows will be the pension proposal

From what I'm reading the large amount of initial federal money for this program is only for the first seven years, after that it is reduced every year shifting the major financial burden to the state taxpayers.
I thought Corbett already said that PA was not going to participate in this part of Obamacare thereby requiring the Fed. to set it up, or is this something different ?

TheSeif.. Yes Governor Corbett claimed this. That does not mean he will honor his word. Certain politicians have been screaming "repeal Obama Care" for a length of time and will buy into it eventually

Here is an example TheSeif:
Arizona Governor went on an on about the repeal of "Obama Care" & endorsed Mitch

But

Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ) is the third Republican governor to accept Obamacare’s optional expansion of the Medicaid program. The governor’s decision to expand Medicaid will extend health coverage to an additional 30,000 previously uninsured Arizonans.

In a speech on Monday, Brewer explained that expanding Medicaid is the right financial decision for Arizona because the federal government will reimburse states for the cost of expansion:

The governor said it makes no sense not to take the federal dollars. She said it’s not like opting out of what’s been called “Obama-care” will save federal dollars or go toward debt reduction.

On the other side of the equation, Brewer said not taking the money will continue to mean a high number of uninsured in Arizona, people who show up in emergency rooms to get care but are unable to pay. The governor said those costs amount to a “hidden tax’” of $2,000 per family.

Brewer could have a fight on her hands: While a few Democrat lawmakers stood to cheer, most Republicans not only stayed seated but refused to applaud.

Did a little more reading on this. This is not what I was thinking it was, the deal that Corbett turned down before was the setting up of insurance exchanges, 25 states including PA declined to participate leaving it to the Fed. to set up the exchanges.
This deals with Medicaid expansion also left up to the states as to whether they want to participate or not.
The problem with this program is that although the Fed. is supposed to cover 90% of the costs the state taxpayers will have to come up with the other 10% and there is no guarantee that the Fed. will continue the 90 % contribution for more than a few years which means the state taxpayers could end up holding the whole bag down the road. So I don't blame Corbett for declining the offer.

Since we are discussing medicaid expansion (Obama Care)

Here is another Governor that side stepped

Ohio Gov. John Kasich
A man who was on a mission to repeal Obama care. He even had a sit down with mitch about it

Image
He had the support of the tea party with his claim of limited government
But the other day he said:

"We are going to extend Medicaid for the working poor and for those who are jobless trying to find work," .... "It makes great sense for the state of Ohio because it will allow us to provide greater care with our own dollars."

These people cried and cried about this care all during the election and it back fired on them and here they banking on it. Talk about drinking the Kool -Aid

So your 'examples' include an Arizona Gov and a Ohio Gov. What does that have to do with Corbett?
