A state senator says marijuana should be legalized and taxed in Pennsylvania to raise revenue and remove the threat of criminal prosecution for pot users.Image

Sen. Daylin Leach said Monday at a news conference that he's introducing a bill to do just that.

Leach says state laws have treated pot smokers as criminals for 75 years, even though they harmed no other person or property.

He proposes that pot be sold with liquor and wine at the state stores to people who are at least 21.

Leach says Pennsylvania needlessly spends $350 million a year prosecuting, incarcerating and monitoring marijuana crimes. He claims that taxing legal marijuana and marijuana businesses could generate hundreds of millions of dollars a year.

Gov. Tom Corbett has said he'd veto any legalization bill.

I firmly back The Governor on this one

The purpose of govt is to protect out rights, not legislate our morality or make personal decisions for us.

The governor and his side on this issue are anti liberty and disgrace the role of govt in America.

I expect those who support govt intervention, subsidies, state run monopolies, & Obamacare to oppose this avenue of freedom also. They are at least consistent in their stances against free people making free choices.

But how do others - like Corbett - explain being for some of these policies and against others?

It would probably be smart to wait for a couple of years to see how things go in Colorado and Washington.
At the very least give them enough time to straighten out the kinks.

I like the pro-legalization people always calling to "tax the hell out of it" as a means to justify their cause. My question is, why? Why should people have to pay any more than the standard 6% sales tax? Same with cigarettes and alcoholic beverages; it's a crock.

Wholly agree.

Paying extra to exercise your freedom of choice is just punishment for exercising a freedom others don't like.

OK, you're against marijuana. WE GET IT. There are others on this board who agree with you on this issue, but they don't have to tell us about it over and over and over again.

Vic do you really want to discuss this "over and over" issue?

Sure. Obama keeps screwing us, over and over and over again. If he would stop doing that, I'd stop complaining about him. But he won't. So I will have to keep ripping on him, over and over and over again.

I've explained why I continually rail agaist Obama. Now explain why you continually rail against marijuana. And please don't try to change the subject again.

I'd have to disagree. A couple of a states have legalized it, but Obama isn't trying to get it legalized federally.

The basis of my comment was concerning the "over and over again" post. We did not ask the question of an explanation of "why the President Obama rants" as you well know.We get a big kick out of them. You wrote the following:

But that is common practice for you and yet you criticize us for a few
